  • When you visit the Old Town – Orono YMCA we expect the following rules to be followed:

    Be respectful and cooperative with YMCA staff and fellow participants.

    Be respectful to our facility by following all facility usage and safety rules.

    Youth under 13 must be actively supervised by an adult.

    Profanity, vulgar language/gestures, including swearing, name calling, intimidation or shouting is not permitted.

    Weapons of any kind are not permitted on YMCA property.

    Sexually explicit conversation, any form of abuse, inappropriate behavior or sexual contact with another person is not permitted.

    Possession, sale, use or being under the influence of any substance while on YMCA property or at a YMCA program is not permitted.

    The YMCA is a tobacco free environment. E-cigarettes/smoking/smokeless tobacco is not permitted in or outside the YMCA, including sidewalks, ball fields, or playgrounds.

    Appropriate attire must be worn at all times. Clothing, tattoos, or anything visible that conveys a message of hate, exclusion, or violence is not acceptable.

    Loitering is not permitted on YMCA property.

    Registered sex offenders are not allowed at the YMCA or YMCA programs.

    The YMCA is a membership organization and we reserve the right to deny access and/or remove anyone from any program or premises at any time. Failure to follow this CODE OF CONDUCT will result in disciplinary actions, which may include immediate eviction from the premises, loss of privileges and suspension or termination of membership. We encourage individuals who experience or observe inappropriate conduct to promptly report their concerns to YMCA staff. We are here to serve our members and hope that you enjoy your experience at the Y. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make your time here with us more comfortable.

  • Membership Cancellation Policy

    You can cancel your membership at any time by submitting in writing that you would like to cancel your membership at least one week before your next scheduled draft date. If you have a draft membership, the Y will continue to draft until you cancel your membership as noted above.

    Return & Bounce Check Fees

    If any pre-authorized check or debit/credit card payment be returned from the member’s bank, the payment and a $15 return payment fee is to be made.

    Program Cancellation/Refund Policy

    COVID–19 CANCELLATION POLICY:

    Should we have to cancel a class due to COVID-19, make ups will not be provided and there will not be a credit/refund option for the missed class. Should we have to end the session due to COVID-19, only YMCA system credit will be available for the missed classes.

    CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY:

    The Old Town - Orono YMCA program fees are non-transferable and non-refundable. Exceptions may be made for those with a diagnosed physical medical condition. We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule classes that do not have sufficient enrollment, in which case a YMCA system credit may be issued. No refunds or credits will issued for individual classes missed and make up options will not be available. If a class needs to be cancelled, we will make every effort to notify you in advance via email. Make up options for class cancellations will not be available.

  • Climbing Gym

    General Rules

    Registration required; please see the Front Desk before entering.

    Participants must have a signed waiver on file.

    The Climbing Gym is only available when a YMCA staff member is on duty.

    A maximum of 16 climbers are allowed in the gym at one time.

    Be respectful of other climbers, we're all here to learn and improve.

    Climbing above or over the top of any wall is prohibited.

    Do not use any part of the roof structure or rope anchor system as a hold.

    The ropes are for climbing, not for swinging. 

    No food or drink (other than water) allowed in the Climbing Gym.

    Equipment

    YMCA climbing gear must remain in the Climbing Gym at all times.

    We reserve the right to inspect any equipment brought into our gym.

    Safety

    Belay Certification by a YMCA staff member is required to belay.

    Belay Certification is available to those 15 and older.

    Never climb below another climber.

    When bouldering, your feet must remain below the white line.

    If climbing higher than bouldering height, a top rope belay is required.

    Please utilize the crash pads for bouldering whenever possible.

    YMCA staff have the final say, please respect their decisions.

    Field House:

    Participants must have a signed waiver on file.

    Use of the gymnastics equipment is not allowed without proper supervision of an instructor before, after, and during lessons.

    No food or drink (other than water) allowed in the area.

    Staff and participants must take their shoes off when entering the roped in area.

    Children utilizing the running track must be supervised.

    The upper track is for running only, while lower track is for walking.

    Fitness Center

    The following policies regarding the use of the Fitness Center are designed to keep everyone safe and to ensure we continue to provide a clean, accessible, and healthy atmosphere for all members and guests.

    Conduct and Etiquette - Please use the Y core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility to govern your behavior. Profanity is not allowed. Consult our Code of Conduct for a more detailed description about our expectations.

    Fitness Center Orientations - Anyone between the ages of 13-17 is required to complete a Fitness Orientation before entering fitness areas. Those under the age of 13 must be actively supervised by an adult at all times.

    Cardio Time Limit - During busy times or when people are waiting, please limit use of cardio equipment to 30 minutes. Circuits and Lingering on Equipment. Be mindful not to interfere with another's workout by lingering too long on any one piece of equipment. If you intend to perform multiple sets of reps on a machine, please allow others to work in between your sets.

    Rack Your Weights - Please return all free weights and movable equipment to their storage location at the end of your workout. Make sure to strip bars and return plates to storage racks.

    Clean Equipment After Use - Equipment and machines must be cleaned with disinfectant and paper towels after each use. Cleaning spray is located at the Fitness Center desk and under the paper towel dispensers on the walls.

    Proper Attire Required - Shirts must be worn at all times. Non-marking, closed toe athletic shoes must be worn in all times. No swimsuits or clothing that may be considered inappropriate in a family environment allowed. Please be courteous to others by observing proper regular hygiene and limiting use of perfumed sprays.

    Supplements and Pre-Workout -Anyone under the age of 18 is not allowed to possess or use any supplements or pre-workout mixtures at the Y. For those 18 and older, please keep all supplements or pre-workout mixtures stored in a fitness bag or locker.

    Personal Items - Please store personal items including gym bags, purses, extra clothing, etc. in a locker in the locker rooms. For information regarding our locker rooms, including locker rentals please see our Front Desk.

    Report Equipment Malfunctions & Injuries - Please report all equipment malfunctions, personal injuries and specific concerns immediately to the staff.

    Food - Only closed water bottles are allowed. No food or gum permitted in any fitness area.

    Fitness Studio

    Class appropriate clothing and shoes.

    Remember to sign in to each class

    Do not lean on mirrors

    No food allowed

    Adult Gym

    No food or drinks (other than water) in the gym

    Do not kick balls into the ceiling rafters

    Do not hang from the basketball rims

    Sign out equipment and return in like condition

    Respect space so as not to interfere with others

    No vulgar language or music

    Turf Field

    You must wear a batting helmet to use the batting cages

    Food and drink will not be allowed on the turf

    Anyone under 17 must be supervised by an adult

    No cleats of any kind on the turf

    Please no gum in the area and of course this is a tobacco free area.

    All pitchers in batting cages must use screen and recommended to wear a helmet.

    Please leave area as you found it.

    Pick up equipment within allotted time.

  • Member identification is very important to us here at the Old Town - Orono YMCA! We like to call you by your name, make connections and build relationships. We want to know who you are!

    At the Y we have a 100% Check-in Policy. This is so we can keep everyone who uses our Y as safe as possible.

  • To participate in a group exercise class or one of our many programs, you must make a reservation before class. All reservations will be on a first come, first serve basis. If you have registered for a class but can no longer attend, please call the Front Desk immediately to cancel. Participants who have registered for a group exercise class but have not arrived within the first 15 minutes will have their spot forfeited to a participant on the waiting list.

  • Members aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times while at the Y.

    The Workout Center is for ages 13 years and older.

  • Only Coast Guard approved PFDs are permitted.

    Walk at all times in the pool area. No walking in the gutter.

    All jumping must be done from the gutter facing the pool. Diving, twists, flips, and partner jumps are not permitted.

    No rough play.

    Food, gum, or beverages (other than water) are prohibited in the pool area. Glass containers are prohibited.

    Prolonged underwater breath-holding is prohibited in this facility. This practice can lead to Shallow Water Blackout.

    All personal training, coaching, and swim instruction must be scheduled through the YMCA. Outside instruction is prohibited.

    Patrons with open cuts, blisters, inflamed eyes, contagious skin rashes, or any communicable disease are not permitted in the pool. Anyone who has or had diarrhea in the past two days should refrain from using the pool.

    Spitting, nose-blowing, urinating, and depositing foreign matter into the pool is prohibited.

    The pool may be closed as necessary for the health, welfare, and safety of the patrons. The pool will be cleared during thunderstorms and will remain closed for 30 minutes after the last thunder is heard.

    Animals are not permitted in the pool.

    The lifeguards have final say. Please respect their decisions.

  • All patrons must shower before entering the pool.

    Swim suits, or swim-specific attire required. No denim. T-shirts must be snug fitting.

    Street shoes are not permitted on the deck.

    Any patron who is not toilet-trained, or was recently toilet-trained, must wear a swim diaper.

    Hair longer than earlobe length must be tied back or in a swim cap.

    All swim attire should be YMCA appropriate and family friendly.

  • The lifeguard on duty reserves the right to swim test any swimmer. The swim test is a non-stop demonstration of the following:

    25 yards of swimming on front

    Jump and submerge in deep water

    1 minute of treading water

    If a patron does not pass the swim test, he/she must remain in the shallow end of the pool and wear a Coast Guard approved PFD.
